Der Kummerkasten ist ein Ort unerfüllter Wünsche, gescheiterter Hoffnungen, leeren Pizzaschachteln und nicht gefundenen Türen. Kein Wunder, dass sich an diesem trostlosen Ort so einiges an Altlasten ansammelt.

Leberkrebs
- Die Mutter von Jack Sawyer leidet an Krebs, wird aber von ihrem Sohn mit Hilfe des Talismans geheilt. Im Folgeroman wird berichtet, dass sie einige Jahre später dennoch an Krebs verstorben sei.
